The zebra
represents
rare diseases
"If you hear hoofbeats, think horses not zebras..."
THINK AGAIN!!!
Historically, the zebra has been a symbol for rare diseases in the medical community. The EDS community has adopted the zebra as a symbol for the EDS, but there are now many healthcare professionals that believe EDS is not as rare as we once thought.
Why does this matter?
If EDS is actually more prevalent than originally thought, that means there are many that are going misdiagnosed. For those that have gotten a diagnosis, it most likely took years to finally be properly diagnosed.
